GUIDING PRINCIPLES

New projects and projects coming up for renewal are screened by a French-American Grant Review Committee of internationally qualified higher education professionals and academics.

At its inception, the Fund received major support from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from American private organizations and individuals. The Fund currently seeks further financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies in the United States and in France.

GUIDELINES

Only nonprofit institutions may submit applications to the Fund for French-American University Partnerships. American institutions must demonstrate their 501 (c)(3) status granted by the IRS; French organizations must provide proof of equivalent status for eligibility.

No grants are allocated to individuals.
Projects must be submitted and co-signed jointly by the partners.

GUIDELINES

Amongst the questions to be addressed:

1 | hat needs are your institutions trying to address?

2 | Does the project create permanent Graduate core courses validated and accredited by both the French and American institutions involved?

3 | Does the project display the added value of integrating a dual approach into the learning process?

4 | Does the project integrate an interdisciplinary approach?

5 | Does the project propose novel approaches to resolving logistical differences between the French and American university systems (e.g., tuition fees and room & board), as well as joint curriculum design and accreditation procedures?

6 | Does the project integrate distance learning and teleconferencing into teaching methods and modes of communication?

7 | Does the project offer immersion experiences in the American academic culture for French participants (and vice versa) via student and faculty exchanges, internships and seminars?

8 | Does the project further a stable and growing number of students and teachers, as well as professionals, involved in the project?

9 | How does this initiative add value to the institution’s internationalisation strategy?

10 | How will the project impact on your local community, region, student population, local sponsors, etc.?

GUIDELINES

The Grant Review Committee will also judge a project on the following criteria:

1 | Does this partnering lead to a Dual or Joint Degree at the Master or Doctoral level? Will it ever?

2 | How much is each institution putting in terms of funds and physical means into the partnership?

3 | What is the quality of student Housing on campus and the degree of tutoring and help for the visiting students?

4 | How many students and Faculty are effectively exchanges each way?

5 | How committed are each of the institutions involved in this partnership?

6 | What is the scientific excellence of the teams hosting the program in each partner institution?
