Eligibility
Etant donnés: The French-American Fund for Contemporary
Art offers financial support in the form of grants to American
nonprofit institutions organizing exhibitions, installations,
artist residencies, publications, or other projects by living
French artists or to French nonprofit institutions presenting
the same types of projects involving American artists. Qualifying
exhibitions may be in the fields of painting, drawing, sculpture,
architecture and design, as well as video art or any form
of artistic endeavor applying new technologies.
Only nonprofit institutions may submit applications to the
Fund. American institutions must demonstrate their 501(c)(3)
status granted by the IRS; French organizations must provide
proof of equivalent status for eligibility. More specifically:
• American institutions may submit projects involving
at least one French artist (French citizen or legal resident
of France for more than five 5 years);
• French institutions may submit projects involving
at least one American artist (United States citizens or legal
resident of the United States for more than 5 years);
• Grants are not allocated to individual artists;
• Applications for projects which have already begun
are ineligible. The Artistic Committee prefers to review projects
at least six months before they begin and only projects starting
at least eight weeks after the application deadline (after
June 1st) are eligible; and,
• Applicants may reapply to the Fund for the same project
only if the project has developed or changed significantly
since the last application.
