ELIGIBILITY
No grants are allocated to individual artists.
• Only nonprofit institutions may submit applications
to Etant donnés : The French-American Fund for the
Performing Arts. American institutions must demonstrate their
501(c)(3) status granted by the IRS; French organizations
must provide proof of equivalent status for eligibility.
• American institutions must be presenting at least
one French artist (or legal resident of France for more than
five (5) years) in the project submitted or a substantial
French-American artistic collaboration. New productions of
French classical repertory are only eligible if they involve
collaboration with a French director/playwright/other professionals.
• French institutions must be presenting only American
productions based on a French text or a substantial French-American
collaboration involving at least one American (or permanent
resident of the United States) theater professional or playwright
in the project submitted.
• When performed in the United States, productions
must either be performed in English or in French with subtitles
or simultaneous translation; when performed in France, productions
must either be performed in French or in English with subtitles
or simultaneous translation.
• Nonprofit institutions collaborating on projects
should designate one French or American institution to centralize
the request. In the case of a festival presenting several
productions, the Artistic Committee may decide to award a
grant to the organization producing the festival and/or to
each production individually. In the case of a tour, each
presenter as well as the individual institutions may apply
individually to the Fund; the tour must be mentioned in the
application.
• Applications for projects which have already begun
will be ineligible.
• Only projects whose presentation begins after May
1st of the application year will be eligible.
• The amount of the grant requested cannot exceed 50%
of the total budget for the project or the amount of $25,000.
• Applicants may reapply to the Fund for the same project
only if the project has developed or changed significantly
since the last application.
