The French-US Exchange in Dance program, known as FUSED, melds the French and American dance communities by fostering dialogue and exchange, consolidating professional relationships and spawning choreographic innovation. This multi-year program introduces choreographers and performers whose works have not yet - or rarely - been seen in the partner country.

The FUSED program offers grants to U.S. and French non-profit presenting institutions willing to pledge to a new bilateral dance project with possibilities for residencies, commissions, and/or touring the work of at least one choreographer/performer from the partner country. Co-productions between presenters are encouraged.

The National Dance Project (NDP) of New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy joined forces in 2004, with the support of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Florence Gould Foundation, Culturesfrance, and FACE (French American Cultural Exchange), to create FUSED. The program builds on the momentum of the cross-cultural choreographic influences between the U.S. and France.

For the three first years, the program based its exchanges on a network of U.S. and French presenters eager to present innovative artists, and to increase the appetite for rarely seen French and US dance work in the partner country. To date, the program has supported 22 choreographers and 20 presenting partners in France and the U.S.
