This
parlour game is played out adeptly by an agile cast, especially Jacques
Villeret as Pignon (who played the role on stage for some 600 performances)
and Thierry Lhermitte as Brochant. Francis Verber handles the material
with aplomb and observes all the proper conventions . The stage is
set for fast and furious farce of the highest order. - The
Endinburgh French Film Festival.
Pierre
is a successful French publisher who faces a great challenge. He must
find the most stupid and boring "guest" to bring to a dinner
held by his wealthy and obnoxious friends. When he meets Francois
Pignon, a slow-moving accountant, Pierre is sure he will win the prize.
But the tables are quickly turned and it is Pignon who ends up destroying
everyone's cosy lives.
