"In
the script, which the director co-wrote with July Peyr,
Mickael is sketched as a character going through his adolescence
with relative ease, but that does not mean that he does
not learn or grow. Despite the specifics of the story,
it is this attention to his normal aspects that lends
Mickael his universality and therewith the audience's
investment in the character".

Mickael, an
adolescent living in a small town, is the captain of his judo
team. One day he is asked to work with Clément, the
son of the team’s sponsor. Everything separates the
two boys: Clément comes from a wealthy family and Mickael’s
parents are working class. At first, Mickael is reluctant
to work with Clément, but a powerful attraction begins
between the two, as Clément helps Mickael lose a drastic
amount of weight for an upcoming meet. Vanessa, Mickael’s
pretty girlfriend, is also wary of Clément, but soon
begins enjoying his company. As part of a complex set of sacrifices
and emotional revelations, the three teenagers begin an intimate
encounter that leads to a life-changing sexual experience
for all. The most affected is Mickael, who comes to realize
that his obsession with sport may hide darker issues concerning
his family and his place in the world. While he has to deal
with issues of jealousy, Mickael is also faced with a difficult
family life. His parents have a hard time making ends meet
and his father drinks heavily. Set against a backdrop of punishing
physicality, a combat-fuelled world of obsessive training
and dieting and intense, illicit sexual adventure, Cold
Showers casts a piercing eye over the crucial problems
of adolescence.
