“Dercourt's cool, extremely elegant and often witty film remains admirably ambiguous until the very final scenes, and even then the script wisely foregoes tying up too many loose ends. It's a meticulous piece of work, beautifully shot by Jérôme Peyrebrune, and assembled with a proper understanding of music and the important role it can play in people's lives. In building both narrative tension and psychological resonance, Dercourt is helped no end by the excellent performances, most particularly that of young François, quite superb in only her second movie after an excellent (but very different) debut role in the Dardennes' 'The Child'.”
Geoff Andrew, Time Out London

A well-built psychological thriller, The Page Turner is a story of revenge. Mélanie, a meticulous ten-year old girl, assiduously practices in order to audition for a prestigious piano school. Mélanie's playing is faultless until Ariane Fouchécourt, a renowned concert pianist who conducts the audition, stops listening to her in order to sign an autograph. Mélanie loses her concentration and confidence. The rest of the audition is a complete failure and she decides never to play the piano again. Years later, Mélanie gets an internship as a file clerk in a law firm headed by Jean Fouchécourt. Mélanie manages to work her way into Jean's private life when she becomes his son's babysitter during the holidays. It turns out that Jean's wife is none other than Ariane, who does not recognize Mélanie. Once more, the two women are face to face, only this time the balance in the relationship has changed. Mélanie is a grown up and Ariane is no longer the successful pianist she once was. Because of a serious car accident, she has lost her confidence and her career has reached a critical point. Slowly, Mélanie becomes essential to Ariane's work, as she turns the pages of the partitions Ariane plays. An intricate, unhealthy relationship begins between the two women as Mélanie is set to take revenge.
