“The precision of Carole Bouquet’s performance as Lucie Aubrac, simple, tender, strong, loving and brave, will astonish the spectator and give Claude Berri’s film all the credibility it deserves.” - Ecran Noir.

From Claude Berri, the director of “Jean de Florette,” comes a film which celebrates one woman’s bravery in occupied France. Daniel Auteuil plays Raymond Samuel, an important historical figure of the Resistance movement, who is arrested at a secret meeting of the highest echelon members. When he is found guilty of war crimes against the Germans and sentenced to death, his only hope for survival lies on the shoulders of his wife, Lucie Aubrac. Initially an onlooker in the fight against the Nazi regime, Aubrac must now become a leader. Despite incredible odds, she single-handedly organizes and executes a plan to save her husband. A proud and courageous woman, Aubrac’s role in the French Resistance has become legendary. This powerful film captures many of the pivotal events in the struggle of the French people during World War II, including the tragic fate of the mythic Jean Moulin, played here by famous theatre director Patrice Chéreau. Made with the cooperation of the real-life Lucie Aubrac, Berri’s film introduces North Americans to this inspiring woman who risked everything to save her husband.
