“The tension is never crushing, as it would be in an American job. Instead, it grows by increments, until you realize the movie, in its quiet way, has you snared entirely.” Stephen Hunter | Washington Post
SWIMMING POOL

Sarah, an uptight and unhappy English mystery writer, retreats to her publisher’s house in Provence to lift her spirits and work on her next novel. Hoping to find peace and quiet in the French countryside, Sarah is dismayed to find that her publisher’s daughter Julie has decided to settle there, too. Free-spirited, sexually promiscuous Julie is the exact opposite of Sarah, which annoys Sarah profoundly. Sarah keeps a rigid schedule and does her best to avoid Julie, who spends her days lingering by the pool and her nights going to clubs and bringing lovers home. Sarah cannot avoid her for too long, however, and her rigid habits gradually relax. As a dramatic murder brings the two women closer, the reality and fiction of Sarah’s novel are blurred. In Swimming Pool, François Ozon offers an absorbing story, beautiful photography.
